Weekly Update

👏👏👏 I am so proud of the girls in their leading of our class chapel. They hand picked the songs we sang, made the puppets, and did such a great job with the chapel. Thank you so much for being here this morning. 👏👏👏

Here is a slideshow of the beautiful paper dresses they designed.

Much of our week was spent preparing for today's chapel. In addition, we completed unit 1 in math and the girls took a quiz on the unit today. We will look at it next week and I will send it home next Friday. Yesterday, they independently completed the Wordly Wise quiz on list 2. This will come home next week as well.

The girls did well taking our fall ERB milestone tests. On Monday, we will begin our first class novel and we will read James and the Giant Peach.

Weekly Update

This was an odd week with me being out some because I was sick. I appreciate the flexibility the girls showed while I had a substitute teacher. I look forward to being back with them on Monday!

Here are some curriculum updates and reminders:

Math: The girls have worked through unit 1 and started to review the concepts in class. They will take a unit assessment next week and we are reviewing for it in class. On Monday, they enjoyed a Taylor Swift themed musical moment.

Vocabulary: They are learning the routines and activities with their wordly wise lists as they worked through list 2 this week. We will continue studying these words next week and they will take an assessment on this list independently on Thursday, September 26.

Reading: We finished a class read aloud of The Hundred Dresses. This a timeless story that shares messages about of bullying and discrimination in a straight forward manner. Children can learn about dealing with tough decisions like standing up for friends, fitting in, and ultimately how to show forgiveness. It is a fabulous story and encourages great class discussions. As a culmination project, the girls created their own dress design with a special message of compassion hidden somewhere within the design. They are a very creative bunch and did a fantastic job designing their dresses. We look forward to sharing more in our class chapel next Friday!

Weekly Update

We had a great first, five day week! The girls are adjusting well to the routines and expectations of being a Fourthie. They are a precious group and we had fun celebrating 25 class compliments today by wearing pajamas and having donuts!

On Thursday, the girls not participating in band, learned about club opportunities. After the club introduction, they completed a form with their top three choices. We will make sure they get into one of their three choices and clubs will begin on Tuesday, September 24. Clubs will always be on day 4.

Here are some curriculum updates and reminders:

Math: We are working through unit 1, which focuses on numbers to 1,000,000. Specifically, we are learning about various ways to represent numbers, understanding place value, comparing and ordering numbers, and reviewing rounding. We also completed a fun activity called a Musical Moment for Musical Moment Monday. Here is the task they completed after listening to a song:

Language Arts: Today, the girls took their first WW test and we worked through it together. To prepare for this, we did many activities in class over the last two weeks. One fun activity is a picture matching activity that you can check out here.

Social Studies: We have been reviewing the three branches of government and next week, we will continue discussing the purpose of each branch and who is part of the branch. The unit will culminate with the girls designing a Pixton comic explaining a branch of choice.

Thank you for coming to Back-to-School Night Wednesday night. It was great to see so many people and talk about our wonderful school year. The partnership between parents and teachers is so important so I am excited to work with you this year.

Today was a special day because the girls officially became Fourthies. As a grade level, we discussed what it means to be the leaders of the Lower School, they signed a contract, and received their hats. We will keep the hats here so they may use them when they are a carpool helper. They may bring the caps home at the end of the year! It was a fun day.
