Have a great holiday and long weekend! Thank you for sharing your sweet girls with me!
Reminders:
Starting Tuesday, the girls need to bring their recorders to music class!
The girls and I discussed our next Lower School outreach project today and they seemed very excited! We are collecting small toys for children ages 9-11. We have five class stockings to fill and have already added some items I have on hand. Here is all of the information about this project. We really appreciate your support. The deadline to turn in the stockings is December 6 so that is why there is a quick turnaround!Reminders:
Here are the girls in Spanish class on Wednesday holding their Dia de los Muertos skeletons!
The girls have earned 75 class compliments! To celebrate, we will play some Gimkits for fun, bring in blankets, and have a small treat. This will happen on Monday, November 18!We are in the thick of our math unit on multiplication and division. The main message I keep reiterating to the girls is the importance of a strong fact recall. In Google Classroom, I have added many resources that they may use to practice any facts they find difficult. There are songs and games they can access. Here is the link on our fourthie site to access Google Classroom. They then log in with Google using their school email credentials. I am really asking them to own their learning and mastery of facts, and take the initiative to practice what they need to practice.I have also explained to the girls an optional Thanksgiving math challenge and it is linked on this blog. I look forward to seeing who participates. It is due after the break!

Thank you for all the food donations to support our current outreach project! The collection lasts until Tuesday and I am super proud of how many items the girls have already brought in. Here is a flashback photo to when I was crowned Turkey Queen at another school many years ago! Please ask your daughter to explain! 😂
Math: We are continuing in unit 3 and spent some this week learning the difference between prime and composite numbers. The math vocabulary in 4th grade is challenging and we are working hard to learn the meanings of all of these terms. The girls also learned how to make a bar graph on Google Sheets and used their Halloween candy count as their data. Here are their graphs!
Social Studies: We started our unit on westward expansion. We are discussing what life was life
during this time. We have had some great
conversations about why people left their homes to head out west and
what was their motivation. Specifically, we discussed the Lewis and Clark expedition and read and analyzed some of their journal entries from that time.
Reading: To accompany our westward expansion unit, we are reading a novel in our reading time called Ranger in Time, Rescue on the Oregon Trail.
Writing: The girls completed a really fun writing lab about eyebombing. Check out what this means by viewing their creative, perspective writing.

Our first Lower School Outreach Project is starting! We are collecting non-perishable food items for the St. Stephen's Food Pantry. Thank you for helping to support this project. Details are here!
We had a fun week with all of the Halloween festivities! Here are some curriculum reminders and updates:
Math: We are working in chapter 3 and have been differentiating between factors and multiples as we move towards larger multiplication and division problems. The girls are enjoying some of our weekly routines like Musical Moment Monday and Wonder Wednesday where we complete an Esti-Mystery. Ask your daughter to explain to you how it works. Here is a final slide of one.
Reading: We finished James and the Giant Peach and the girls created front page newspaper stories on their favorite scene from the novel. These will come home in their folders soon. Our next novel is called Ranger in Time, Rescue on the Oregon Trail. This historical fiction novel provides a glimpse into what life was life during the time of Westward Expansion.
Social Studies: We completed a mini-unit on women's suffrage and the importance of taking a stand for an important cause. The girls had the choice to work with a partner or independently to complete this project. They wrote an I Am poem from the perspective of someone advocating for their chosen cause and then created a person holding a sign. Here is an example and I am really proud of their work and thoughtfulness.
Language Arts: Yesterday, the girls worked collaboratively to complete this week's 3WT. They turned out well and they always love to do a recording!
