Bravo to the girls for earning 100 class compliments! We will celebrate on Monday, March 3, and they may dress down. This means they may wear jeans, sweatpants, and shirts/sweatshirts with writing on them.
Exciting news: Children's book illustrator Angeli Rafer is visiting the Lower School on Friday, March 28! She will be speaking to the Fourthies from 9:30 - 10:30 in the library. If you are interested in pre-ordering a book for her to sign on the day of her visit, please visit this link to learn more.
Here are some curriculum updates and reminders:
Reading: This week we have been researching African Americans for Black History Month! The girls made accordion books to organize the information they learned along with drawing some clever illustrations.
Math: We are near the end of our geometry unit. Next week, the girls will take the chapter 5 test after we review in class at the start of the week. After spring break, we will begin our chapter on fraction concepts and computation.
Language Arts: We completed our PBL (project-based learning) project. We explored the question "How are different adaptations critical to survival in specific ocean zones?" Thank you to those that were able to visit the culmination on Tuesday. The girls were incredibly proud to share their work with everyone!
Social Studies: We are continuing with our Civil War unit and learning what it was like to be a runaway enslaved child. This is the storyline in our historical fiction novel Ranger: Long Road to Freedom. In addition to reading the novel and taking notes, the girls learned about the "pig pen" cypher code used by soldiers. They enjoyed writing messages to fellow fourthies!
