7. Untreated cases of head lice
Here are some curriculum updates and reminders:
Math: We are working on chapter 5, which focuses on geometry. So far, we have reviewed the difference between a point, line, line segment, and ray. The girls also can identify angle types including right, acute, obtuse, and straight. For the last few weeks, the homework has been a spiral review and then they have a short quiz focusing on the topics reviewed. While they may not love this homework format, it helps to keep previously taught skills fresh in their minds!
Reading: We are enjoying the wit and humor in Flora and Ulysses by Kate DiCamillo. After the girls read a section of chapters, they define new vocabulary and answer comprehension questions. We should finish this novel sometime next week.
PBL: The girls are working hard to finish their PBL (project-based learning) projects on ocean animal adaptations. In science, they are constructing a 3D model of their animal. In class, they made an illustration of their imaginary creature and also wrote a descriptive paragraph about it. We are excited to share all of their work with you on February 20.
Social Studies: We are still working through our study of the Civil War. The girls are asking thoughtful questions. With February being Black History Month, we will also discuss African-Americans from this period who were major change makers.
